Are You Finding Hope Amid the Despair?

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week in the United States, I reflect on our situation.

These are dark days. A pandemic with 257k Americans dead—and 1.4M worldwide. A divided country where truth and decency are being challenged daily. Small business owners fighting to keep their enterprises afloat. Average Americans struggling to make ends meet. Celebrations and family gatherings on hold for the foreseeable future.

In the midst of the chaos and uncertainty, there are glimmers of hope. Two very promising vaccines. A new US President-Elect pledging to unify our country (along with our first female, and person of color, VP!). Everyday people working hard to save lives and livelihoods despite the personal risks. So many striving to do the right thing by sheltering in place and wearing masks while connecting from afar with loved ones.

While there is much to mourn, this Thanksgiving, I will strive to focus on gratitude and hope. We are a resilient nation in a resourceful world and when we come together, with purpose and compassion, we can get through anything—and come out stronger.

YOUR TURN: How are you harnessing gratitude and hope amidst the pain and despair?
