I love to grow and learn, to challenge myself, especially in my coaching business. One area I’ve been slow to embrace is the use of video—especially live unscripted video—so Facebook Live is the holy grail for me, inducing a fast heartbeat and sweaty palms. But I also know that the experts I love to follow show up on video, consistently and genuinely. No fancy graphics or hair blowouts needed.
How to get started and feel safe doing it? I found the encouragement I needed to take the first step in Sarah Michelle Brown’s Facebook group, VideoStars, where she challenges us to post short videos based on a monthly topic and provides lots of free tips and support along the way.
After completing two of Sarah’s video challenges, I had the confidence to take the next step. A few weeks ago, I launched my Wise Women live series, where I invite members of my Facebook group (Empowering Women in Midlife) to share their wisdom in a video chat with me. I love meeting my members in real (virtual) life and riffing with them about what we’ve learned on our journeys.
As Mark Twain said, “Courage is not the absence of fear, it is acting in spite of it.”
YOUR TURN: Where in your life are you holding back? How is fear keeping you small? What is one small step you will commit to, one that allows you to move in the direction you want to go?
